Dump Truck Driver Comes Forward After Man Run Over, Killed at Miami Gas Station: MDPD

Police will not file charges against the man, who was unidentified.

A dump truck driver police say accidentally ran over and killed a man at a Miami gas station has come forward, officials said.

The man went into the police station Saturday night after seeing the story and picture of the dump truck on the news, said a tweet from the Miami Police Department.

The tweet also said the man, who was unidentified, will not face any charges.

Police were looking for the driver after the body of 54-year-old Wilfredo Gonzalez Santana was found at a gas station at 2810 NW 12 Ave. They said he was hit by the truck just before 7 a.m. Saturday and killed by the impact.

Surveillance video shows the dump truck roll into the gas station to fuel up, police said. The driver goes inside to pay and leaves calmly, officials said, leading them to believe the driver did not notice he had run the man over.

Police said Santana may have been laying on the curb to sleep.
