Emails From Tampa Mom Accused of Killing Kids Released

Hillsborough County prosecutors have released 55 pages of emails sent to and from Julie Schenecker, the Tampa woman accused of brutally killing her two children two years ago

Hillsborough County prosecutors have released 55 pages of emails sent to and from Julie Schenecker, the Tampa woman accused of brutally killing her two children two years ago.

The correspondence includes an email from her husband, U.S. Army Col. Parker Schenecker, in which he says he's worried about whether the children are safe with their mother. He was stationed in Qatar at the time of the Jan. 27, 2011, slayings.

Prosecutors say Julie Schenecker typed out an email to her husband as her children lay dead - daughter Calyx, 16, in her bedroom, and son Beau, 13, in the family van. "Get home soon - we're waiting for you!" A short time later, she forwarded him the childrens' grades. "calyx has all b's and a's(equals)yipps i"

Later, she sent emails to her parents, brother and sister with the subject line: love you all. She thanked her family for their support in the email, which was filled with typos and grammatical errors. "it's really difficult and I'm so sickmentally," she wrote. "I will end this soon.though I am at my wits end."

Authorities found Julie Schenecker, 50, on the porch of their home, wearing a white robe the morning after the slayings. She had blood on her face. Authorities say she admitted to shooting the children but pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder. Defense attorneys plan to use insanity as her defense at her trial, scheduled to begin in April.

The emails detail family members' concerns. Julie Schenecker had been in a crash while drunk and on pain pills and they expresses fears about what could happen to the children if she drove again while intoxicated, according to the emails.

Two months before their deaths, Parker Schenecker emailed his wife's psychiatrist with concerns that she could no longer control their daughter. He said Calyx had been verbally abusive and disrespectful to his wife.

He also mentioned that his wife has started drinking more.

In a Dec. 31, 2010, email to the doctor, Parker Schenecker wrote that he was concerned his wife wasn't taking her medicine.

Julie Schenecker's final email rambled. She wrote that she "minimally takes care of the kids," and that her son had developed his sister's attitude. She wrote that it "makes me cry ... seeing what they've become."

"I will end this soon," she wrote. "I am at my wits end."
