Escaped Prisoner From South Florida State Mental Hospital Caught: Police

Leandro Guymaraes, 30, was caught in Coconut Grove Sunday after running away from the hospital Saturday night, authorities said.

A prisoner who escaped from the South Florida State Mental Hospital in Pembroke Pines has been captured, police said.

Leandro Guymaraes, 30, was located and arrested in Coconut Grove around 3 a.m. Monday after running away from the hospital Saturday night, authorities said. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.


Police said Guymaraes left the hospital at 800 East Cypress Drive without approval around 11 p.m. Saturday. He had been court ordered to the facility due to his Schizophrenia and previous violent tendencies, police said.

Guymaraes also has a warrant out for his arrest out of Miami-Dade County, officials said.
