Thief Who Robbed Three Banks Hours Apart Nabbed: FBI

Man pulls off three bank heists in one day, authorities search for him

The FBI announced Thursday night that a suspect wanted for three bank heists earlier in the day in Miami-Dade County has been arrested.

Reginald Watkins, 53, of Miami was arrested without incident at about 7:45 p.m. by Miami-Dade Police and members of the South Florida Violent Crime/Fugitive Task Force, FBI Special Agent in Charge John Gillies said.

Watkins was apprehended in connection with robberies in North Miami, Miami Shores, and Hialeah, the FBI said.

Watkins first robbed a Bank of America at 9 a.m. at 13450 W. Dixie Highway in North Miami. He demanded money from a bank employee in front of customers, according to the FBI.

The second robbery was at 10:15 a.m. at the TD Bank at 9005 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Shores.

Again the robber demanded money from an employee and fled without anyone getting injured, the FBI said. Money was taken but authorities didn't reveal how much.

Then at 2 p.m. Watkins robbed the Bank of America at 175 Hialeah Drive in Hialeah, the FBI said. He demanded money and left on foot with it. No one was injured.

Watkins is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court for the robberies Friday in Miami, the FBI said.

The 53-year-old was incarcerated between May 2009 and Feb. 1, 2012 for five robbery offenses from late 2003, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

The agency said it is still searching for another robber who held up a Pembroke Pines Wells Fargo Thursday and lost some of his stolen cash as he made his getaway on a motorcycle on I-75 South. The FBI asks anyone with information on that incident to call it at 305-944-9101.
