FHP Investigating Fatal Crash on U.S. 1 in South Miami-Dade

Authorities are investigating a fatal head-on crash on U.S. 1 in south Miami-Dade Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. when a 2003 Toyota Tundra that was going in the wrong direction slammed into a Buick LeSabre that was traveling southbound near Mile Marker 126, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Buick, identified as 45-year-old Travis L. Carter, was killed at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, identified as 53-year-old Dawn Broadhead, of Miami, was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital with serious injuries, the FHP said.

Alcohol may be a factor and charges are pending, the FHP said.

The crash caused the closure of the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 early Thursday and traffic was diverted to Card Sound Road.
