FHP Released Dispatch Calls From Trooper Stopped by Miami Police Officer

On Nov. 8, Miami officer Thomas Vokaty stopped Victor Luquis while traveling southbound on the Florida Turnpike, FHP said.

The Florida Highway Patrol on Tuesday released the radio transmissions from the traffic stop where a City of Miami Police officer stopped a trooper.

On Nov. 8, Miami Officer Thomas Vokaty stopped Victor Luquis while traveling southbound on the Florida Turnpike, FHP said.

Vokaty got back in his patrol car and left before issuing Luquis a ticket, FHP said.

"I guess he freaked out and ran to his car and took off," the recording said.

After the incident, the FHP squad continued to follow Vokaty's Miami patrol car for a short distance, according to FHP.

Vokaty was disciplined with a record of formal counseling by Miami police. It is a warning given before any further discipline occurs.

Tensions began last month between the two agencies after the chase and arrest of a Miami Police officer at gunpoint by a FHP trooper on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County.
