Fallen Officers in Miami-Dade County Honored

The names of the fallen officers will be read at noon all of September.

More than 100 people gathered on Tuesday morning to honor the 136 officers who were killed in the line of duty in Miami-Dade County since the 1800s.

To honor the officers, the Dade County Police Benevolent Association will have mannequins on display for the month of September at the Stephen P. Clark Center. The mannequins will wear black shirts that “I died for you,” on the front. On the backs will be the names and dates the officers were killed.

The names of the officers will also be read there at noon for the rest of the month.

“More than 50,000 officers are assaulted every year and sadly we tend to forget,” said John Rivera, president of the benevolent association. “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have no problem saying it loudly and proudly to all those officers who have given their lives, to the survivors…. Officers who protect us each and every day, Thank you.”

Detectives Roger Castillo and Amanda Haworth, who were killed as they served a warrant on Jan. 20, were also honored.

"It's bittersweet ... I'll never forget my daughter, or Roger," said Amanda Haworth's father, Robert. Haworth. "I miss my daughter."
