Family Dogs Killed in Miramar House Fire

Family comes home from movies to find house on fire

A Miramar family came home from the movies Sunday night to a house fire that killed their two dogs.

The fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. at the home in the 2500 block of Southwest 157th Avenue.

"The flames were just everywhere," said Marcy Covington, who lives across the street. Covington said her neighbors normally leave their two dogs outside, but left them inside while they were gone.

Firefighters found the dogs' remains on the second floor of the home, while flames left the first floor "100 percent destroyed," said Randy Gonzalez, spokesman for Miramar Fire Rescue.

One firefighter suffered second-degree burns to his hand and was treated at the scene and later hospitalized, Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said he was calling for city and state investigators to help examine how it started. The fire may have started in multiple places.
