Firefighters Pull Man From Burning Miami Home

Man hospitalized after he's pulled from burning home by firefighters

A man is recovering in the hospital after police say firefighters pulled him from his burning home in Miami Thursday morning.

Firefighters rushed to a corner house in the 5100 block of Southwest 6th Street in Flagami after receiving a call of a fire just before 4:30 a.m., officials said.

City of Miami Fire Department spokesman Snaire Chavez said firefighters found the victim semi-conscious, lying in his back doorway.

"I was scared," said Alex Quintana, who lives two doors down. He says he woke up to what sounded like an explosion or gunshot as the house burned.

Investigators say the approximately 40-year-old victim suffered cuts and burns, but is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He wasn't identified.

Quintana said the victim lives alone and mostly keeps to himself.

Firefighters were able to douse the flames but the house was badly damaged. Authorities didn't say what caused the fire.
