Ninja-Like Fort Lauderdale Robber Caught on Camera

Police looking for disguised gunman who robbed convenience store

Police are looking for a robber resembling a ninja who ripped off a Fort Lauderdale convenience store at gunpoint last week.

The armed robbery happened at about 9:40 p.m. Friday at Marina Discount Beverage at 2705 Southwest 15th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale Police said Tuesday.

Police say the suspect, dressed in black from head to toe, walked in and pointed a handgun at the store clerk, demanding he open the cash register and lay down on the floor.

The clerk, Gias Uddin, told NBC 6 that he feared for his life.

"Yeah, I think maybe he was going to shoot me at any time," Uddin said.

As Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Garcia described it, "We have a clerk who sees the handgun pointed directly at him, is told to lie down, face-down, has no idea what is next – until he later learns that the suspect had left the store."

Uddin complied with the robber's demands, and the suspect grabbed cash from the register and fled the store, police said. The incident was captured by the store's security cameras.

"This neighborhood where we are working, we never have any problem, everybody is nice," store manager Dilip Modak said.

The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing black shorts, a black long sleeve T-shirt, black sneakers and a black shirt draped across his face to conceal his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale Police at 954-828-5546.
