Man who shot another in apartment arrested: Police

A suspect has been arrested in the New Year's day shooting death of a Fort Lauderdale man, police said Monday.

Hammersham White, 32, is facing one count of first-degree murder in the shooting of 46-year-old Christopher Valli, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

He was taken into custody Monday by the Fort Lauderdale Police Homicide Squad and Career Criminal Unit working with the FBI Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, police said.

Police said Valli was found inside an apartment in the 900 block of Northwest 4th Street with a gunshot wound after officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police haven't given a motive for the shooting.

White was being held without bond Monday. It's unknown whether he has an attorney.
