Gas Leak Forces Students to Evacuate Fort Lauderdale High School

Propane tank leak forces school evacuation, no injuries reported: Officials

Fort Lauderdale High School had to be evacuated Thursday afternoon after a propane gas tank started leaking, officials said.

The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. at the school at 1600 Northeast 4th Avenue, city spokesman Matt Little said.

According to Little, the evacuation was prompted after the 250-gallon tank, which is located near the cafeteria, started leaking from the bottom.

All of the students were safely evacuated and there were no injuries reported, Little said.

A HazMat team was en route to the scene.
