Grandmother Killed in Hialeah Hit-and-Run

Police search for driver after 78-year-old killed in street

Police are looking for a driver who was involved in a hit and run crash in Hialeah Tuesday night that left a grandmother dead.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the area of 8th Avenue and 11th Street, as the woman, 78-year-old Maria Morales, was crossing the street to visit her daughter, authorities said.

Police say she was struck by a green, four-door Hyundai driven by a white male, who didn't stop to help.

Morales was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are working several leads, we have received lots of information here on the scene," Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said. "There were many witnesses out here who saw what happened."

The car has damage to the driver side mirror and the passenger side tires, and police are asking anyone with info to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
