Grow House Found in Home of Deadly Chase Suspect: Miami-Dade Police

A large grow house operation was discovered in the home of the shooting suspect involved in Wednesday's fatal crash and SWAT standoff that ended with four dead, Miami-Dade Police said Thursday.

Narcotics investigators found 43 marijuana plants in the home of Antonio J. Feliu at 2020 Southwest 100th Avenue in Miami, police said.

The plants, which were found in a "fully operational hydroponics laboratory" in the home, have an estimated street value of $107,500, police said.

"I surprised this happen and I seen so many police cars yesterday and a little girl walking with a dog and I asked her what happened over there. You know that guy that killed three women. He live over there. My God, in my neighborhood," said Arnold Rafula, a neighbor.

Feliu, 48, turned a gun on himself following the tragic sequence of events that began with a double shooting in South Miami Heights and ended with a fatal crash and standoff in west Broward Wednesday.

Police said Vivian Gallego Martinez, 51, and daughter Anabel Benitez, 28, were found shot at their home at 12341 Southwest 190th Street early Wednesday. Martinez died at the scene, and Benitez was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The vehicle Feliu was driving, a dark Mercedes SUV, matched the description of the car police were looking for in connection to the shootings and a chase ensued after he refused to stop, police said.

Feliu drove north into west Broward, speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before his SUV collided with another Mercedes at the intersection of Griffin Road and U.S. 27, authorities said. The violent collision killed the driver of the other car, identified as 48-year-old Maritza Medina, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Officers surrounded and approached the car but heard a gunshot and backed off. More than an hour after the crash, SWAT teams converged on the car and discovered Feliu inside, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the BSO said.

Police said Feliu once dated Martinez and detectives are exploring the possibility that Feliu may have been angry over a split between them.

Medina's funeral will be held this weekend at the Caballero Rivero Woodlawn at 11655 SW 117th Avenue in Miami. The visitation will on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
