Hollywood Comes to Overtown With New Film Starring Chad Johnson

The movie, which also features "True Blood" star Kelly Overton, is being shot in Overtown itself.

Miami's Overtown looks more like Hollywood this month as directors, producers and actors take to the historic neighborhood's streets to film the eponymous movie.

The stars of "Overtown" – former NFL player Chad Johnson and True Blood's Kelly Overton – could be seen on Northwest 11th Street and 11th Avenue Friday afternoon for the full-blown production that included lights, camera operators and audio techs as locals stood by and watched the commotion.

"This movie is homegrown," writer-director Cess Silvera told NBC 6. "It is about a few friends born and raised in Overtown."

The movie is an action thriller, featuring stunts and explosions.

For Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, the theatrics are nothing new.

"(I was) putting my feet in the water while I was playing for 10, 11 years – doing little appearances here in different movies, different sitcoms," he said. "And now it's time to focus on the next chapter in life."

And locals are thrilled to have him in the neighborhood.

"He is a very handsome guy and very cool," said Michelle Green, an extra in the movie.

Overton said she was impressed by the showing of spectators in Overtown.

"Everyone is out watching," she said. "It is kind of amazing. Fascinating. I love that the directors and writers are taking a story like this."

Production will continue in Miami for another few weeks before it heads to the silver screen in 2014.
