Jury Selection Begins in Trial of 2 Officers Accused of Making Illegal Drug Bust

They were arrested in February

Jury selection began on Monday morning in the trial of Miramar officers Jean Paul Jacobi and Jennifer Conger.

They were arrested in February after officials said the two went beyond their jurisdiction when they broke into a suspected drug house and found dozens of marijuana plants growing in an apartment.

The officers were charged with official misconduct, falsifying records, criminal mischief and trespassing, according to police.

Former Officer Jacobi and Det. Conger allegedly used a suspect's key to enter a Miramar apartment they believed had a large amount of drugs. Once inside, they discovered numerous marijuana plants in a bedroom closet and other drugs.

However, on his police report, Jacobi stated that the door of the home was opened when he arrived and the smell of marijuana led the group inside.

Another officer who was also at the scene reported the truth to investigators about using the suspect's key to enter the home.

Jacobi and Conger later turned themselves in and were held on $1,000 bond.
