Repairs Close Main Runway at Fort Lauderdale Airport

The repairs should take about 24 hours, if the weather cooperates

The main runway at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will close temporarily on Wednesday night for emergency repairs.

The north runway will close at 10 p.m., and a team of construction workers will repair an area that was found damaged in the morning.

The closure will not affect flights because another runway will be used. The repairs may take 24 hours to complete if the weather cooperates.

Airport officials said the damaged area is adjacent to a high speed exit where planes break, which is used heavily by commercial planes.
