Man Arrested in Fatal Fort Lauderdale Hit-and-Run: Cops

A man who is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal Fort Lauderdale motorcycle crash was released from jail Saturday morning, a jail official said.

Joseph James, 25, was released on a $7,500 bond after he was arrested Friday night in connection to the fatal hit-and-run on North Federal Highway, according to police.

He was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with fatal injuries, Fort Lauderdale police said. Further charges are pending.

Police said David Hughes, 52, was killed as a result of the collision. He lost control of his motorcycle when James' car struck him, authorities said.

Fort Lauderdale Traffic Homicide Investigators responded to the scene, but James fled, authorities said. Witnesses were able to give the vehicle’s description to authorities.

Hughes was transported as a trauma alert to Broward General Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
