Man Busted for Facebook Threat Against Sweetwater Cop

Man facing charges for Facebook post saying cop's "gotta die": Police

A man was arrested after authorities say he made a threat against a Sweetwater police officer on Facebook that said "It's sweetwater pd that's gotta die."

Daniel Jesus La Rosa, 25, was arrested Monday on a charge of corruption by threat against a public servant, Sweetwater Police spokeswoman Michelle Hammontree-Garcia said.

He was released Tuesday and scheduled for arraignment on April 4.

According to Hammontree-Garcia, La Rosa posted a photo to Facebook through the Instagram application labeled "Diary of a Cop Killa" that showed a video game character wearing a gas mask and pointing a gun with two dead policemen in the background.

The text with the photo says "Make my day!!!" and "It's sweetwater pd that's gotta die!!! Lol."

After his arrest, La Rosa admitted to making the threat and said he did it after breaking up with his girlfriend and learning she was dating a Sweetwater police officer, Hammontree-Garcia said.

La Rosa's attorney called the charges against his client "silly."

"I think it’s a complete overreaction by the Sweetwater Police Department," Roberto Pertierra said.

"There are few threats that I have come across in my life that are ended in that fashion – Lol," Pertierra said. “If it is him, he made an off comment, and ended it like a joke."

La Rosa was arrested at the school where he works, Hammontree-Garcia said. Calls to the school weren't returned Wednesday.

Pertierra said he will work hard to have the charges dropped against La Rosa.

"This is a good kid. He doesn't have any prior criminal history. He’s loved by his family," Pertierra said.
