Man On Bicycle Arrested After Scuffle With Officers: Miami-Dade Police

Police say man was armed and on drugs, tried to get away on bicycle

An armed man who police say was on drugs and fought with officers was arrested after he tried to get away on a bicycle Monday night in northwest Miami-Dade.

The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. in the area of Northwest 12th Avenue and 58th Terrace when officers spotted the man riding his bicycle against traffic, Miami-Dade Police said.

When officers approached the suspect, he rode away from them and ran into a convenience store while ditching a gun he was carrying, police said.

Officers followed the man into the store but he was able to get back on his bicycle and ride away. Police caught up to him nearby and he tried to fight back but was taken into custody.

The suspect, who wasn't identified, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment for injuries. Police said he is a convicted felon.

"We did receive information from the hospital staff stating this individual was on drugs, was on some type of MDMA type of drugs," police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

No officers were injured during the fight. Police said they’re charging the man with battery of a law enforcement officer and carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon.
