Man Shot in Northwest Miami-Dade

Police investigate shooting, elementary school on lockdown as a precaution

Authorities are investigating after a man was shot in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at about noon outside the Friends Meat Market on the 6600 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue, Miami-Dade Police said.

A man was shot in the arm while standing outside and went in the store for help, police said. He was being treated for the injury.

“When I went inside the store, I seen blood spots and a shirt covered with blood and the man told me I couldn't come in the store," witness Sherell Williams said.

Nearby Poinciana Park Elementary was placed on lockdown as a precaution after shots rang out in the neighborhood, police said.

Suspects in a red Nissan Altima were shooting an AK-47 assault rifle as they drove by, according to police.

“He said all of a sudden somebody just got out and started shooting at them or whatever," said Viviam Armstrong, whose son was fired upon. "So I really don't know what's going on, but I just came to make sure he's OK, that's all.”

No details were given about possible suspects.
