Miami Couple Falls 10 Feet After Landing Collapses

Tanya Benavides and Victor Mauricio Cerratto fell at home at Biscayne Blvd. and 29th Street on Tuesday night

A woman and man were injured after falling 10 feet from a landing at their rental apartment in Miami.

Tanya Benavides and Victor Mauricio Cerratto fell at home at Biscayne Blvd. and 29th Street on Tuesday night.

Their teenage nephew, Jorge Aguilar, said he was walking behind them when the collapse occurred.

"I jumped back with my nephew I pulled him aside and they just fell with a blink of an eye," he said.

Benavides injured her leg, while Cerratto was still hospital with back and rib injuries.

Building inspector Ray Benitez took photos of the damage on Wednesday and issued a $210 fine to the owner.

Benitez declared that portion of the building that fell unsafe for occupancy, which he said collapsed because part of it was rotting.

"If the owner won't fix an unsafe structure, just call the city. That's our job, to protect the public," Benitez said.

The owner wasn't available for comment.
