Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Gives Back

Davone Bess got the crowd pumped on Thursday

Just like in a game, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess got a crowd of kids pumped up and read, to learn about how to live a positive life that is.

He did it Thursday afternoon at the Little River Branch library in Miami.

Bess also read to the kids, something that means a lot to the children who visit the library in Little Haiti everyday.

"No other football player comes to read to us," 15-year-old Kerbvens Simeon.

Years ago, Bess said coaches, athletes and other adults helped mentor him when he was growing up in Oakland, Calif. Now, he said it's his turn to pay it forward.

"That's one reason it inspired me to reach out," he said. "Rec centers kept me out of trouble."

Bess hopes appearances like this one help pave the way for some of the kids in attendance to do whatever they dream of.

"I think he will inspire us to be football players," one kid who dreams of playing in the NFL said.

Bess' visit was part of the summer reading program that runs till July 23rd. For more information visit, http://www.mdpls.org/.
