Military Helicopters To Fly Through Miami-Dade

Police warning residents of military training

Miami-Dade police are warning residents that military helicopters may be buzzing their neighborhoods sometime soon.

But it's no reason to panic. Police said Monday that multiple agencies will be providing support for a joint military training exercise somewhere in the area.

The Miami Herald reports the training locations and times were "carefully selected to minimize negatively impacting" area residents. But police say some neighborhoods could be affected.

Police say this is a routine exercise that ensures military personnel are able to operate in urban areas and to focus on preparations for overseas deployment. It also serves as a mandatory training certification requirement.

The Herald says a similar operation took place in April 2011 in Miami's Brickell area, bringing with it some sleepless nights and griping on social media.
