Three separate operations to get drugs and guns off the streets of Miami have led to more than 100 arrests, police officials said Friday.
The suspects were arrested during operations "Meltdown," "Gun Squad Goons," and "Black Dove," Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa said during a news conference, where he was joined by other police officials and community leaders.
Some of the operations date back to 2010 and were begun in reaction to shootings in Miami and especially the areas of Overtown and Liberty City.

"We started three different operations going after what causes these shootings, which is the drugs," Orosa said.
Many of the charges are for distribution of cocaine and heroin and felons in possession of guns, Orosa said.
Orosa said they have been putting more officers on the streets and holding more gun buy back events to clean up the streets.

Nathaniel Wilcox, the director of PULSE, People United to Lead the Struggle for Equality, said the proof is in the results.
"We are glad to say that out of all these people arrested in our community, there is not one body count," Wilcox said. "The lives of the people of our community have been enhanced by these domestic terrorists being taken off the streets."
