Mother Planning to Sue Broward Schools After School Bus Mishap

Mother Tracy Mondry said she plans on suing the Broward County School District after her daughter and six other children get off at the wrong stop on the first day of school.

A mother whose child was left at the wrong bus stop on the first day of school said she plans to file a lawsuit against the Broward County School District.

Parents said seven students from Forest Glen Middle School in Coral Springs were let off at a bus stop miles away by Broward Health North Medical Center in Pompano Beach on Aug. 19.

"Why am I filing a lawsuit? Because I feel that it should be made an example of," mother Tracy Mondry said. "When a child says to you, 'It's not my stop, you missed my stop,' acknowledge it."

Mondry said her daughter was left unsupervised and under bad circumstances, and that surveillance video shows the bus driver ignored the children.

"The school bus driver clearly did not follow the protocol," Mondry's lawyer Lara Shiner said.

Officials did not release the video, saying it is part of an ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the school district's Transportation Department has said that the bus made its scheduled stops and that the children did not recognize their stop. The department said the driver told students who missed their stop to stay on the bus until he could drive them back to their stop, but instead they got off near Sample Road in Pompano Beach.

School District spokesperson Tracy Clark said there would be no comment on a lawsuit that has not yet been filed.
