Mother of Nine Killed in Florida City Shooting

Miami-Dade Police investigating woman's murder

Police are looking for the man they say shot and killed a mother of nine Thursday night in Florida City.

Carrie Smith, 51, was killed in the shooting, which happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Northwest 2nd Court, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Smith, from Homestead, was shot while standing in the roadside and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police are searching for 45-year-old Jeffery Leon Perpall, who they say is responsible for the crime.

Perpall was seen leaving the scene in a gold Pontiac Sunfire with license plate 044IDZ. He's considered armed and dangerous.

Smith's brother, George Smith, said the woman family members called Penny had nine children and cared for one of her grandchildren.
