Novack Widow's Brother to Testify at Murder Trial

Brother of woman charged in deaths of husband and mother-in-law to take the stand

A man accused of helping his sister get rid of her husband and mother-in-law is telling his side of the story.

Cristobal Veliz is expected to testify in federal court Thursday as the first defense witness at the siblings' murder trial.

Veliz, of Philadelphia, and his sister Narcy Novack, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have pleaded not guilty in the 2009 deaths of Ben Novack and Bernice Novack.

Ben Novack was the son of the man who built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.

If convicted of murder in aid of racketeering, the defendants would face a mandatory life sentence.

Prosecution witnesses have testified that Veliz recruited them for the attacks in New York and Florida.

Narcy Novack is also expected to testify before the trial winds up, possibly next week.
