Officer Injured, Suspect Killed in Shootout in West Palm Beach

Officer expected to survive after wild shootout with suspect at apartment complex

A West Palm Beach officer shot and killed a suspect who had shot him in the shoulder Monday night at an apartment complex.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. after officers responded to a call of a man shot at a Citgo gas station near Haverhill Road and 45th Street, according to WPTV.

An investigation led officers to the nearby Springbrook Commons apartment complex, where they were fired on by the suspect, West Palm Beach police spokesman Allan Ortman said.

The officer, a five-year veteran of the force, was shot in the shoulder in an exchange of gunfire, Ortman said. One of the officer's bullets struck and killed the unidentified suspect.

The officer was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center where he's expected to survive. The first man who was shot by the suspect was also taken to St. Mary's, where his condition is unknown.
