Officials: DNA Puts Man At Crime Scene

Authorities say DNA evidence led them to a suspect

Authorities on Thursday said DNA evidence from the scene of a Pompano Beach arson and a burglary led them to a suspect, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

James Mathis, 56, already in jail in Broward on unrelated charges, is now charged with burglary and arson in connection with crimes committed in 2010 at the Palm Aire Country Club, authorities said.

Authorities extinguished the blaze but determined it was ignited to cover up the burglary.

Mathis was arrested in September and charged with burglary and grand theft, paper reported.

His attorney's name wasn't immediately known.
