One Killed, One Injured in Series of Crashes on SR 836 in Miami-Dade

Dangerous morning on wet South Florida roads

One person was killed and heavy delays were reported after a series of dangerous crashes on State Road 836 during a rainy Friday morning in Miami-Dade.

The first crash happened around 4:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of 836 at Southwest 57th Avenue, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez said.

According to Sanchez, three women were in a grey Infiniti when it rear-ended a dumptruck, killing the woman sitting in the front passenger seat.

The other two women weren't hurt.

The second crash, which was unrelated to the first, also happened on westbound 836 between 37th Avenue and LeJune Road and involved four vehicles, Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.

As one of the drivers got out of his car, he was struck by a vehicle that kept going and fled the scene, Carroll said.

The unidentified man suffered severe injury to his arm and was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, Carroll said.

A third crash was also reported in the same area of the second.

The crashes had all westbound lanes of 836 closed as authorities investigated. Drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Traffic was expected to be tied up in the area beyond rush hour, Sanchez said.
