Pair Stole Shoes From 11-Year-Old: Police

Sneaker thieves who stole Nikes at UM "Sneaker Con" sought by police

Coral Gables Police are looking for a pair of thieves who they say stole a pair of pricey Nike shoes from an 11-year-old kid at Miami's "Sneaker Con" convention.

Police say the two suspects were caught on surveillance video swiping the expensive sneakers inside the Bank United Center at the University of Miami this past Saturday.

According to police, the 11-year-old boy was trying to resell some Nike DMP1 shoes that didn't fit when he was approached by the two suspects.

One suspect acted as if he was pulling money out of his pocket to purchase the shoes but instead pushed the pre-teen to the ground and fled the scene on foot with the shoes, police said.

"The victim started to run after them but his older brother kept him from running because they didn't know if they had any weapons," Coral Gables Police spokeswoman Kelly Denham said.

Both suspects are described as black males between 16 and 18. One was between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot 10 and was wearing a multi-colored hat. The other was between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet and was wearing a white baseball cap and striped tank top.

The two are believed to have driven to the event in a blue Ford Mustang.

"So now we have an 11-year-old child who has saved his money and now doesn't have his money or shoes because he's the victim of a robbery," Denham said.

Anyone with information is asked to call UM Police at 305-284-6666 or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
