Police Identify Man Shot in Behind by Cop

Suspect in shootout with off duty officer facing attempted murder charge

Police have identified the burglary suspect who was shot in the buttocks while trying to break into a City of Miami cop's car.

Delon Roxroy Sinclair, 18, is facing an attempted murder of a law enforcement officer charge in the Wednesday morning incident, according to Pembroke Pines police spokesman Daniel Rakofsky.

Well-known detective Confesor Gonzalez, who has been featured in the TV show "The First 48," told investigators he confronted Sinclair as he was breaking into Gonzalez' unmarked police vehicle in the detective's Pembroke Pines driveway.

Sinclair opened fire and an off-duty Gonzalez shot back, hitting the suspect who fled on foot, police said.

After being wounded, Sinclair led cops on an early morning manhunt as officers spent hours searching for Sinclair before he was taken into custody around 8 a.m., police said.

Sinclair was taken from the scene in an ambulance to Memorial Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound in his buttocks. Gonzalez was not injured.

Sinclair is believed to be responsible for a rash of vehicle burglaries in the area over the last few months, police said.
