Burglary Suspect Caught After Crashing Into Cop Car in Southwest Miami-Dade: Police

The incident happened in the area of 204th Street and Southwest 123rd Avenue when witnesses reported hearing gunshots and saw an armed man fleeing the area.

A burglary suspect is in custody after he crashed into a police car and led officers on a search in southwest Miami-Dade early Tuesday.

Police had set up a perimeter in the area of Southwest 208th street and 122nd Avenue after witnesses reported hearing gunshots and saw an armed man fleeing the area.

"I hear the helicopter, that noise and I wake up and say what's going on and I didn't pay too much attention and went back to bed," said Neighbor Jose Brito.

Miami-Dade Police detectives searched for the suspect and an officer trying to stop a burglary shot at the suspect.

The man, who was unharmed, got away but was soon caught by police.

"This neighborhood is very safe but sometimes you hear something crazy but not all the time," Brito said.

Streets around the area were closed during the morning as crime scene investigators and K9 units looked for evidence.

No other details of the shooting or suspect were known.
