Police Search for Man Who Shot Girlfriend at House Party

Man shot girlfriend during party, carjacked guest to flee scene: Police

Police are looking for a man who they say shot his girlfriend during a house party in Southwest Miami-Dade and fled the scene early Wednesday.

Jose Luis Duarte Borrero, 31, is wanted in the shooting that happened just before 3 a.m. at the home in the 14900 block of Southwest 59th Street, Miami-Dade Police said.

Police say Duarte Borrero and 27-year-old Yissel Milanes, who live together in the home, entered a bedroom during a party and a gunshot was heard.

Milanes was rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center where she is in critical condition, police said.

After the gunshot was heard "the guests attempted to leave the residence in their vehicles, and that's when Duarte came out with the firearm and carjacked" one of them, fleeing in his white SUV toward Hialeah, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Police said Duarte Borrero later abandoned the car with the gun inside in Hialeah and stole a green Jeep Cherokee belonging to a relative.

The Jeep was abandoned in the area of Southwest 40th Street and Southwest 152nd Avenue Wednesday morning, where police were searching for Borrero. Witnesses said he came to a cafecito stand at the corner of 152nd and Bird Road. An employee there said he looked nervous and left without paying.

Borrero is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who may know his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
