Man Linked to Plantation Homicide Arrested After Search in Davie: Police

A man linked to a fatal shooting in Plantation was arrested after a police search in Davie early Thursday, officials said.

Police said Juan Manuel Machin Jr., 25,  was arrested at his home in the 13900 block of South Cypress Cove Circle by SWAT teams from Plantation and Davie, Plantation Police spokesman Det. Robert Retting said.

It's unknown what charges he'll face, or if he has an attorney.

The shooting happened in the 10700 block of Cleary Boulevard Wednesday night, Retting said.

Retting said Joel Humberto Rosillo, 26, was found with a gunshot wound to his head.

Hours later, Machin was located at his Davie home and the surrounding community was cordoned off.

"As soon as I came out of the gate a police officer asked me if anybody forced me to come out and I said no, I'm just taking my son to school, so they searched my car, they searched my trunk,” resident Verna Marmolejos said.

Plantation Police spokesman Det. Robert Rettig explained, "We do come in force as a precautionary measure to keep the citizens safe."

With local and federal tactical teams surrounding his home, Machine turned himself in. Davie Police officers handcuffed him, and he was turned over to Plantation Police, Davie Police spokesman Capt. Dale Engle said.

The arrest didn't come as a surprise to neighbor Kenny Powers, who said Machin's life has been spiraling out of control in the last few years.

"He's raised as a good kid, his parents are good parents, but the last few years he's been going down a bad road," Powers said.

He added, "He's been going around doing some bad things, he stole some checks next door and cashed them, a lot of bad things recently, and it's sad."
