Prominent South Florida Attorney Guilty in Theft From Urban Development

Lynn Washington recently pleaded guilty to grand theft involving $520,000 stolen from New Urban Development.

A prominent South Florida attorney is facing prison unless he can begin repaying urban development funds he recently pleaded guilty to stealing.

The Miami Herald reports that 55-year-old lawyer Lynn Washington recently pleaded guilty to grand theft involving $520,000 stolen from New Urban Development. The group is an affiliate of Urban League of Greater Miami.

Under terms of a plea deal, Washington must make his first $100,000 repayment or he could go to prison for five years. Washington has also resigned from practicing law and must do 1,000 hours of community service.

Washington is well-known in Miami as an advocate for housing for the poor, was former president of Legal Services of Greater Miami and was a member of the Orange Bowl committee.
