Robbers Caught After Going to Hospital For Medical Attention: Cops

The incident took place on Oct. 27

A robber, injured in a shootout during the incident, was arrested  when he was driven to a hospital by an accomplice for medical attention,  Miami Police said Thursday.

Ali Martinez, 20, was driving the getaway car after Christopher Yen, 20, and an unidentified accomplice robbed a Shell gas station convenience store on Oct. 27, police said.

Yen approached the counter asking to buy a 37-cent piece of candy, police said.  Another man came in shortly after, and as Yen paid for the candy, the unidentified robber brandished a semi-automatic pistol and pointed it at the two cashiers, police said. The men demanded all the money, and the cashiers complied, authorities said. The cash registers were emptied, and a small grey box with a lot of coins was taken.

The men ran out the front door, and the son of one cashier ran after them, chasing them down the street, police said. Yen’s accomplice turned around and fired at the cashier's son and he returned fire with his own gun, police said.

Yen jumped into a driven by Martinez and fled, while the other man ran away, police said.

Yen drove Martinez, who had been shot in the head, to the hospital, whose staff alerted police.

Yen and Martinez both face charges including armed robbery and aggravated assualt.

It wasn't immediately known if they had attorneys.
