Security Alert Reported on Flight to Miami International Airport

Police investigating after suspicious activity reported on flight

The FBI was investigating after a security alert was reported on American Eagle flight that landed at Miami International Airport Tuesday morning.

The incident happened on American Eagle Flight 3516 from Indianapolis, according to MIA spokeswoman Maria Levrant.

Sari Koshetz, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, said the pilot in command "expressed a security concern before landing."

"Law enforcement, FBI and TSA met the plane and all passengers, their baggage and the aircraft have been cleared," Koshetz said in an email.

"It appears to have been accidental mishap involving a passenger. I've been told, no further invesigation is required," FBI spokesman James Marshall said in an email.

Passengers said the security concern began after a seal in the bathroom was reportedly broken.

"They said there was a seal broke around the bathroom wall is the reason that they did the search, but I've been on a lot of planes and I've seen a lot of seals broke so I don't really know what happened," said Tom Rethlake, a passenger visiting Miami from Indiana. "We kept seeing police coming and coming and coming and coming and I looked to my wife and son and I said 'I wonder what's going on here.'"

Passengers said authorities boarded the plane with guns drawn and ordered passnegers to put their hands on the seats in front of them and heads down as they searched the plane.

Police dogs were seen going through the passengers' luggage, which was taken off the plane and spread out on the tarmac near the terminal.
