Seminole Casino in Coconut Creek to Expand

The project will be completed by January and 800 will be hired to work at the facility

Seminole Casino in Coconut Creek announced a $150 million expansion project on Wednesday.

The project will be completed by January, and the tribe will be hiring 800 people to work in the facility, everybody from dealers to chefs. It will include a 120,000 square-foot casino plus a parking garage.

Jim Shore is the tribal attorney of the 3,700-member Seminole tribe, which owns the casino.

"We do not have that much of a labor pool. Anywhere we have an opportunity for jobs to be filled by non-Seminole and there is nothing wrong with that," Shore said.

Tribal chairman James Billie took the tribe into big-time gaming with the Hard Rock brand, which has 33,000 employees worldwide.

"10 years ago this area was just a pond. When I flew in I didn’t recognize it. Look at it now, 1000 employees and 800 more to more,” Billie.

The casino will sponsor a job fair on Nov. 2, at 5550 NW 40 Street in Coconut Creek, to fill the 800 slots.

Since construction started in June, about 500 people have been working at the site every day.
