Registered Sex Offender Charged in Assault

Becker was also convicted of having sex with a minor 12 years ago in California

A registered sex offender convicted of having sex with a minor in California in 1999 was recently arrested in Hallandale Beach after trying to assault a 16-year-old girl, police said.

An investigation revealed that on Oct. 22, the girl went to David Becker's home when he tried to force the victim to perform a sexual act, according to an arrest report. The victim eventually fled his home, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Becker, 57, was held without bail at the North Broward Bureau Jail in Pompano Beach on Tuesday, according to records.

Becker was convicted of sexual battery on a minor 12 years ago, possession of child pornography and providing obscene materials to a minor, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

After Becker's most recent arrest, police reminded parents to be aware, the Sentinel reported.

"They should know what their children are doing and who they are interacting with as much as possible, because people like this are out there," Hallandale Beach Police Capt. Pedro Abut said.
