Shoplifting Mom Left Young Child Behind: Cops

Woman stole from Target, left young child in pet aisle: Police

A South Florida woman is facing shoplifting and child neglect charges after police say she tried to rip off a Davie Target store and left her young child behind.

Deirdre Reneat Grant, 40, was arrested Tuesday at the store at 5800 University Drive, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The report said Grant entered the store with her child and was seen putting several items into Target bags by a loss prevention officer.

Grant then tried to leave the store without paying, and was stopped by the officer, the report said. In the bags were $372.91 worth of stolen merchandise, the report said.

Target security quickly realized Grant's child wasn't with her, and had been left in the pet aisle in the back of the store. Surveillance video captured Grant leaving the child on her own in the pet aisle, the report said.

Grant was arrested and appeared in bond court Wednesday, where she was ordered held on $7,500 bond. It was unknown whether she has an attorney.
