Son Charged in Father's Murder in Miami-Dade

22-year-old facing second-degree murder charge in shooting death of father

The son of a man who was found shot to death inside his southwest Miami-Dade home over the weekend has been arrested and charged in the murder.

John Matthew Juan, 22, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 65-year-old John Juan, Miami-Dade Police said Tuesday.

The body of the elder Juan was found Sunday afternoon in his home in the 15300 block of Southwest 152nd Terrace.

According to an arrest affidavit, the younger Juan had gone to his father's home around 3 a.m. Sunday to ask if he could use his car. The father refused, and the two got into an argument, the affidavit said.

At one point, John Matthew Juan pulled out a pistol and shot his father multiple times, hitting him in the head and arms and killing him at the scene, the affidavit said.

John Matthew Juan was being held without bond Tuesday. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
