Tamarac Hearing Aid Store Fire Investigated

Witnesses heard smash saw hammer after flames rip through store

Authorities are investigating after a fire ripped through a Tamarac hearing aid store early Wednesday.

The flames broke out at the store in the 6200 block of North University Drive around 1 a.m., fire officials said.

Firefighters quickly responded and were able to extinguish the fire. No one was inside and no one was injured.

"The cause right now is undetermined...it's under investigation at this time," Tamarac Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Eric Viveros said.

Witnesses said they heard suspicious noises.

"I heard a smash," said Edson Viapree, who was eating at the IHOP next door. "I was just praying everything was okay."

Viapree said he spotted a hammer on the ground next to the shattered front door. He said he did not see anyone leaving the scene.
