Tanker Driver Killed in I-95 Crash Identified

Christopher James McEuen died in the Flagler County crash early Tuesday.

A truck driver killed when his gasoline tanker crashed on Interstate 95 in northeast Florida has been identified.

Christopher James McEuen died in the Flagler County crash early Tuesday. Sgt. Dylan Bryan of Florida Highway Patrol tells The Florida Times-Union that the crash happened when the loaded tanker clipped an unloaded tractor-trailer truck it was trying to pass.

The crash closed I-95 for hours for emergency repairs on a busy holiday travel day. Bryan says extreme heat from flames engulfing the tanker "damaged the roadway beyond the point where it was safe to operate vehicles."

McEuen's ex-wife said he had been driving for a Jacksonville company for the last several years so he could be closer to his five children, ages 9 to 23.
