Toddler Dead After Being Found In Margate Pool: Police

Two-year-old was with a family member at the time of the incident, say Margate police

A two-year-old boy is dead after being found in a Margate pool, police said.

Officers responding to a suspicious incident call Tuesday afternoon arrived to find the boy unresponsive, laid out on a couch in the living room at 644 Southwest 51st Avenue, said Sgt. Efrain Suarez of Margate Police.

He was pronounced dead on scene, according to police.

Suarez said at the time of the incident the boy had been left in the care of a family member, who found him in the home's swimming pool.

The caregiver removed the boy from the pool and placed him on the couch, contacting police a short time later, Suarez said.

The cause of death is suspected to be accidental drowning, according to police, but is under investigation pending an autopsy.
