Trial Starts for Two Miramar Officers Accused of Official Misconduct

Both officers face various charges

A convicted drug trafficker testified in the trial of two Miramar Police officers who are accused of entering his home without a search warrant and falsifying records.

Officer Jean Paul Jacobi and Det. Jennifer Conger could face up to five years behind bars for what they're accused of doing after they arrested Reginald Belldor. Both Jacobi and Conger face charges of officials misconduct, falsifying records, criminal mischief and trespassing.

Belldor, currently in jail for drug trafficking in a separate case, was shackled as he testified in court.

In July 2010, Beldor was arrested after marijuana was found in his car during a traffic stop by Jacobi and Officer Anthony Pacetti.

"There was a clear plastic baggie in there with a large amount of  marijuana," Pacetti said of the traffic stop.

Then later that night, when Beldor was already in custody, Jacobi and Conger are accused of going to his home, where he admits he was growing marijuana.

Prosecutor David Schulson says Jacobi and Conger entered Beldor's home without a warrant  with keys taken during Belldor's traffic arrest. Schulson and Beldor also say the two officers forced open locked doors and a locked briefcase.

But Jacobi and Conger's attorneys say Beldor is not credible and failed an unrelated polygraph test after a separate drug arrest, where he accused police of acting unethically.

The defense attorneys also say the Miramar Police did not conduct a thorough investigation, which led to the criminal trial of the two officers.

Police have suspended their own internal investigation pending the outcome of this criminal case.
