Tropical Acres To Open March 6

Steakhouse almost ready six-plus months after fire

The Tropical Acres Steakhouse in Dania Beach will reopen to the public March 6, just over six months after it was badly damaged in a fire.

The four-generation, family-owned restaurant caught on fire through its laundry room and kitchen area in late August, and was badly damaged by flames and smoke.

Now the restaurant, which will have an invitation-only preview March 5, has been remodeled almost entirely.

“The kitchen looks like a show kitchen,” said co-owner Jack Studiale. They have replaced 27 kitchen appliances and kept only three.

They have also remodeled or rebuilt walls, ceilings, wallpapering, dining room booths, tables and everything that was damaged in the fire.

Customers can’t wait for it to reopen, Studiale said.

Studiale said that many of the steakhouse's caring employees have come to help build and repair the restaurant, at 2500 Griffin Road.

One is a full-time carpenter as well as a part-time server, and has used his abilities to help repair the restaurant. Another with an electrical and tiling background has also pitched in.

“They do what they can,” Studiale said.

Just early Wednesday, 15 employees showed up to help, with six still remaining after 2 p.m.

The restaurant plans on having four to five weeks of specials for customers to celebrate its reopening.

The first week will be a complimentary bottle of wine for every table, and the second week an appetizer platter. The others are undecided at the moment, but will be grander, Studiale said.
