Members of South Florida's large Venezuelan community are staging a peaceful protest in solidarity with activists in their home country.
Venezuelans are meeting at a plaza Sunday in Doral and will read a proclamation for peace.
The Venezuelan organization Una Mano Amiga — A Friendly Hand — is asking Venezuelans to unite in plazas around the South American country and abroad in a "call for peace."
Participants will wear white and call for an end to deaths, hate and fear.
The protest comes nearly three weeks after the slaying of Monica Spear, a popular 29-year-old soap opera actress and former Miss Venezuela.
Venezuela has one of the world's highest murder rates. The United Nations has ranked it 5th globally.
