Victim in South Beach Shooting Remains Hospitalized

Man charged in chase that followed Miami Beach shooting

One of the victims of Saturday's South Beach shooting remained hospitalized Monday, as a man involved in the chase that followed was officially charged, police said.

Anthony Vincent Pellegrini, 29, was in stable condition at Ryder Trauma Center after undergoing surgery. The other shooting victim, 28-year-old Robert Earl Beatty, was treated and released.

Pellegrini and Beatty were in the area of 13th Street and Collins Avenue when an attempted robbery took place.

Police who were in the area responded after they heard gunshots, and spotted a car with three men inside who matched suspect descriptions, according to a Miami Beach Police report.

According to the report, the suspects led police on a dangerous high-speed chase through South Beach's busy streets that reached speeds over 80 mph. The chase went from State Road 836 to I-95 north, where it reached speeds of 110.

The suspects got off at the 79th Street exit, struck a police cruiser and went through several busy intersections before the chase finally came to a stop in the 2300 block of Northwest 80th Street.

An officer injured his arm in the pursuit and was taken to Mercy Hospital.

Jordon M. Silimon, 21, who police say was behind the wheel of the car, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.

Police are still investigating the shooting and the other two suspects haven't been named.
